BMW announces recall over 1 million cars worldwide

Posted on March 29th, 2012 No Comments

BMW AG has announced the recall of 1.3 million vehicles worldwide after a faulty cable cover was found in the 5-and 6-series BMW models made between 2003 and 2010.

The faulty cable cover could cause electrical issues that may prevent the car from stopping and in more severe cases, a fire may start.

No injuries have been reported from the defect and only 1 percent of the cars that have been taken in have had the defective cable cover. Repairs will only take 30 minutes to an hour to fix. In the U.S., there were 386,000 cars affected in the recall.

Posted on March 15th, 2012 No Comments

Lenovo and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced last week that it will be recalling about 50,500 ThinkCentre all-in-one computers for a possible fire hazard. A defect in an internal component may cause the power supply to overheat and start a fire.

Lenovo has received two complaints worldwide of fire stemming from this defect. The ThinkCentre models affected by the recall are the M70z and the M90z. The company urges its customers who have a defective computer to stop using it immediately.

To determine if your computer is the subject of the recall, Lenovo has a support page where you can enter your machine’s serial number.

Bobby Jenks suffers after error made in surgery

Posted on March 1st, 2012 No Comments

The Major League Baseball player, Bobby Jenks, is still recovering from emergency surgery that was performed in order to remove a serrated bone spur from his back.

Jenks had initially scheduled surgery in December to remove two of the four bone spurs that were on his spine. Due to an error made by someone during the surgery, a third spur had begun to be removed, but was not completely taken out before the surgery ended.

This error was unknown to the Red Sox relief pitcher, who returned home after the surgery was finished. He began experiencing severe pain in his back, and also noticed a clear fluid traveling out of his bandaged spine. He went to the emergency room, and was immediately rushed into surgery.

The surgical error caused an infection to grow in his incision, contaminating his spinal fluid. Jenks is lucky to have caught the mistake when he did, otherwise the complications could have been much more severe.
