Michael G. Owen is an Associate in the Morris James Personal Injury Group. Mike works with clients in our Broom Street (New Castle County) and Dover (Kent Count) offices. He is a civil litigation attorney whose practice focuses on personal injury and workers’ compensation matters. He has a wide array of experience handling matters through all stages of litigation including trials before State Court and hearings before the Delaware’s Industrial Accident Board. Mike has also been selected by his peers as arbitrator in personal injury matters.
Before attending law school, Mike worked for Congressman Michael N. Castle (R-DE) as a constituent advocate. While in law school, Mike clerked for the State of Delaware Attorney General’s Office handling both criminal and civil matters. Following law school, Mike worked for an insurance defense law firm defending personal injury and workers’ compensation claims on behalf of an insurance company. Before joining Morris James, Mike worked for a personal injury firm located in Wilmington, Delaware representing injured persons.
Mike currently serves as Treasurer to the Delaware Trial Lawyers Association and is also a member of the Worker’s Compensation Rodney Inn of Court.
Amidst all of the roles listed above, Mike manages to find time to spend with the youth of Delaware by dedicating his time to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware. Mike serves as a mentor and in April 2015 and 2016, Mike was recognized as a Delaware State Youth of the Year Judge through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. From more than 30,000 young people served by Boys & Girls Club in communities throughout Delaware, a small number emerge each year to vie for State Youth of the Year honors. These young people must demonstrate leadership, character, service, academic excellence, and a healthy lifestyle. Mike Owen was honored to be a part of this program and has spent many hours spending time with his own “little brother,” canoeing, hiking, going to the movies, and just “hangin’ out.”
When Mike wants to relax, he can be found taking a stroll with his pup, Stella, a Bull Terrior.
